Nurses of WWI: a blank page in history

Great War Museum / Nurses of WWI: A blank page in history
World War 1. A milestone in violence. Industrialized warfare. Trenches, machine guns, chemical weapons, landmines. Millions dead or wounded. Still, we only talk about those who killed and forget about those who saved lives. The nurses: Tens of thousands of women. Volunteers, facing the horrors of war with little or no practice, relentlessly fighting for life. And yet, like too many women in history, their battle turned into a blank page. It was time to cure our amnesia. To promote the Great War Museum’s exhibition,
we made nurses’ story heard, using their own weapons: bandage and thread. Restoring our memory stitch by stitch.
